Contributor Submissions

At Out of Office, we tell and share thoughtful and unique stories from different places, faces, and spaces. We’re always looking to add new voices to our community and we’re happy that you’re interested in being a guest contributor for Out of Office. Before you start your masterpiece, let’s make sure we are on the same page. First item of business: We don’t accept unsolicited submissions. We DO accept brief pitches for blog posts (please see instructions below). We take a lot of pride in delivering content that aligns with our ethos.

General Requirements

  • It’s original: We can only accept original works by the contributor. We will not accept content that has been posted by the author on a different blog or publication. We will not accept content that has been reworded or copied and pasted from other articles.

  • It’s personal and honest: Out of Office is a place for authentic storytelling. We are here to learn about culture, travel experiences, wellness journeys, genuine journeys of triumph and struggle. An honest voice connects the most with our readers.

  • It’s high quality: We want to make sure your story will be the best it can be! We typically try to keep it to 2 rounds of edits but will suggest multiple revisions if needed. Previous writing experience is not required but we do ask that our writers be diligent in making sure minor grammatical errors are fixed before submitting to our editors. The editing team is lean and can easily have multiple articles in rotation.

  • Re-posting: Once a piece of work is published on the Out of Office Magazine site, contributors are not allowed to re-post their article to other websites or platforms. This does NOT include promoting the article you’ve written for us on social media! We want you to spread the word and we will too!

  • In-depth but concise: If you’ve previously written for us, you are familiar with our word count requirement. However, to allow more flexibility and comfort with storytelling, we have decided to drop this requirement. With that being said, we do ask for content to be detailed and dive as deep as you can. You are painting a picture for the reader and a picture says a thousand words. (Don’t worry you don’t need to write a thousand words! πŸ˜‰)
